Home Care of the Elderly
Meals-on-wheels, Community or
Macmillan nurses - the whole concept
of home care does not exist in Romania.
If you are old and ill or disabled, there
is no help outside the family. |
We are the only organisation in the NE of Romania
to provide home care services with our teams consisting of:
a
doctor, 6 nurses, 2 social workers, 25 home carers, and 2 physiotherapists.
Without our help, over 300 old people would have no choice
but to suffer alone.
We offer a unique home care service for old people so that they can stay
in their own homes during temporary, chronic or terminal illlness.
We shop, cook and provide nursing, medical care,"meals on
wheels" and social support for over 300 frail elderly in 4
regions - AND - we train others to spread this care to other regions.
We offer relief of suffering, independence
and support to our clients and their families. In April 2002, we opened
a Day Care Centre which provides physiotherapy, mobilisation programmes, social
support, counselling, consultant doctor referrals and social and artistic activities
for 82 elderly people. The project also delivers:
| A meals on wheels service
Regular training courses in home care for state and charitable sector employees
An informal national network of organisations involved in providing elderly
care Regular regional and national stakeholder conferences A
manual and guidelines for elderly home care Volunteer assistance in the
project from local nursing, social work and physiotherapy schools Liaison
with and support to the district geriatrician A home loan service
for wheelchairs, nursing and rehabilitation aids | Read
